Customs duty (clearance) constitutes a major portion of a vehicle's final landed cost in Georgia. Duties depend directly on vehicle age, engine displacement (cc), and fuel powertrain.
Under Revenue Service (RS.ge) regulations, eco-friendly powertrains enjoy substantial statutory tax incentives.
What Makes Up the Total Customs Fee?
Total clearance expenses comprise the vehicle excise tax (primary cost), customs declaration filing fees, technical inspection, and Service Agency registration and license plate fees.
Since 2024, only passenger vehicles meeting Euro 5 or higher emission standards (generally 2013+ model years) are eligible for primary registration in Georgia.
Tax Incentives: Electric Vehicles & Hybrids
Electric Vehicles (EV) are 100% exempt from excise duty (0 ₾ excise). You pay only minimal agency registration and declaration fees (~200-250 GEL).
Hybrid vehicles under 6 years of age receive a 60% reduction in excise tax rates, while hybrids older than 6 years receive a 50% discount.
