Understanding Vehicle Landed Cost: A Complete Guide for Brokers
Auction Fees
Sliding buyer fees, gate pickup, and internet bidding adding $700-$1,200 per lot.
Inland & Port Dispatch
Trucking from auction yards to consolidation hubs in NJ, Savannah, Houston, or LA.
Ocean Freight & Poti
Container shipping (35-55 days) and port unstuffing clearance at APM Terminals Poti.
1. The True Structure of Auction Fees (Copart & IAAI)
Winning a lot for $6,000 does not mean your invoice is $6,000. Both Copart and IAAI apply progressive buyer fee schedules, gate pickup fees, and internet bidding fees that add $700-$1,200 to the purchase price.
Wire transfers must be cleared within 3 business days to avoid late fees ($50) and compounding daily storage charges.
2. US Inland Dispatch & Departure Ports
Vehicles are hauled from auction yards to licensed export consolidation warehouses. The price depends directly on distance to the closest ocean port.
Primary departure ports include New Jersey (NJ), Savannah (GA), Houston (TX), and Los Angeles (CA). Coastal yard pickups cost $250-$400, while Midwest locations can cost $800-$1,200.
3. Ocean Container Shipping & Poti Port Handling
Vehicles are professionally blocked and braced in 40ft or 45ft high-cube containers (3-4 cars per box). Ocean freight to Poti ranges between $1,100 and $1,600 per slot.
Upon arrival at Poti port, container unstuffing, terminal handling, and port documentation fees ($150-$250) apply before release.
